Crocodile Cafe closed?

From the Stranger's music blog this morning:

"A reliable source just informed me that she received a phone call from the Crocodile’s Eli Anderson this afternoon. Eli told her he had received a phone call from Crocodile owner Stephanie Dorgan earlier today to inform him that the Crocodile is closed for business. Emails have been sent and phonecalls have been made to confirm. We’ll let you know as soon as we find out more, but I’m trusting this tip is true."

KEXP apparently announced it on air this morning as well. Granted the club doesn't seem to have been doing as well in recent years. I can't remember the last time I went there... maybe two years ago? And the owner just had a spat with the booker, who quit and got hired at Chop Suey. But still, closing seems a bit drastic and exactly the opposite of what all the staff was saying just a week or two ago:

"The rumors are just rumors," says general manager Kevin Watson about the public speculation of the club's imminent demise. "I've been working here for 12 years and I've been hearing rumors the whole time. I've heard that about every club in the city." -The Stranger 12/04

KEXP announced it on the air because Aja Pecknold and I broke the story on Reverb first (the Stranger picked up the story--and with strangely similar phrasing--an hour after I posted it). I then let my colleagues at the station know about it by sending them a link to our post. A small, but pertinent fact.

Regardless, I'm even more grateful for your photo archives at a time like this, Dan. You've done important work keeping vivid track of the punk scene's history and I appreciate it. Time for you to do a photo show at Tigertail!

Yeah Hannah, I have no doubt you beat The Stranger to the punch on the news, I think you guys did on Pete quitting booking at the Croc as well. I remember when publishing Tablet beating The Stranger on a lot of stories, but them getting more notice when they covered them... sometimes the loudest voice gets the credit even when they don't deserve it.

10 Things readers not in the know, Reverb is the Seattle Weekly's Music Blog and it's quite entertaining and up on local music news. I read it daily and am just getting around to adding a link on the blog.

Thanks for the thumbs up on my photos... I'm more of a publish them myself DIYer than a art show kinda guy, but who knows.

Kevin Watson ran that place into the ground with his bad attitude and poor management skills.
