Guitar Wolf

October 23, 1997, Guitar Wolf opened up for The Cramps at Seattle's Showbox Theater (also on the bill were The Demolition Doll Rods). This was my second time seeing The Cramps, but my first time beholding the Japanese rock'n'roll stars Guitar Wolf. The band came out in black leather pants and motorcycle jackets, then soon stripped down to wife-beaters! They totally rocked the joint and were a perfect opener for a band like The Cramps.

That there is "Billy Wolf," who died 2 years ago (?) from a heart attack. When the Popular Shapes opened for them, the entire band helped us load in and Billy was already wasted at like 6 or whatever ridiculous hour the Croc made us get there. Also, before they played, Zack Static told us we had to make sure to stay out of the room on the side of the stage because "the Wolf needs his space. He needs to prepare."

It makes you wonder how he prepared for a show where he needed space and privacy...

Hey Kevin, what was the name of your band with Jed and Andre? I just found pictures of you guys dressed like the four food groups.

The would have been The Rocordbreakers I believe.

Yeah The Wolf was a weird guy. We hung out with them the entire day when The Sinsister Six played with them in like 95-96. They have the unique distinction of being both the best and worst band I'v ever seen.

I think that may be The Spits for me!
