ANTiSEEN

ANTiSEEN is celebrating their 25th year of "Destructo Rock" by touring with the most unlikely partner, old dirty rapper Blowfly. These photos are of their set at the Funhouse ten days ago. I have to say, I've never been that big of an Antiseen fan, they were always a little too rock for me and seemed to buy into their own shtick of being Southern badass rockers a bit too much. Unlike say, Nashville Pussy and the singer's preceding band 9 Lb. Hammer, both bands definitely played up the humorous angle in what they were doing. Regardless, I do have a couple Antiseen records and have been known to rock out to them on occasion. 1993's "Eat More Possum" in particular, which is pretty balls to the wall and has a great band introduction by The Cosmic Commander of Wrestling. I realized when walking by the merch table (AKA Funhouse's pool table) that Antiseen have an insane number of releases, so I'll refer you to their website for more info on the band and their full discography: antiseen.com. Singer Jeff Clayton is known for cutting himself open and bleeding a lot live, sadly their was no blood when I saw them, they had a shorter time slot and breezed through most of their songs.

You got that backwards. In my personal experience with both bands, Antiseen was much easier to deal with and down to earth. Nashville Pussy, not so much and taking themselves way too seriously.

Wow, how lame is that that the reviewer would write such uninformed complete and total bullshit without even bothering to talk to some of the guys in ANTiSEEN when he was at their show and could have easily made the effort to do so? Some of the funniest, laid back, easy to get along with and non-serious guys you could ever talk to. Sorry dude, you've got it all wrong.
Great pics though. ANTiSEEN rocked the Funhouse more than anyone in a long long time. Blowfly was good for about 10 minutes but novelty acts get old pretty quickly. Oh yeah, ANTiSEEN have been doing it for 25 years. Not 20. Do some research next time.

You got me on the typo of 20th instead of 25th, it's funny because I got that info from their website too . On your other comments, yawn. I was clearly stating a personal opinion, I even put "for me" as a qualifier in the sentence. But for the reading impaired, I'll state it more clearly, for me their music is too rock, for me their schtick has never been very funny because it seems to me like they take it too seriously. For you it could be totally different, no big whoop. Just like I found Blowfly far more entertaining that night.

Anitseen are really cool down to earth guys. The Sinister Six played with them in the early/mid 90's and they were cool as hell and don't take themselves seriously at all. Although, I can see how some one who hasn't met them could get that impression. My feelings on Anitseen vs. Nashville Pussy are just the opposite of yours. Whereas Antiseen are heavy and noisy, Nashville Pussy are straight up cock rock ala The Supersuckers. Plus live Anitseen are more unpredictable. With Nashville Pussy you know exactly what you're going to get; third or fourth song in the guitar player will take off her shirt, a couple more and she takes off her tank top and plays the rest of the show in her bra. After that the bass player blows fire all while playing a set of songs that all sound pretty similar (Can you guess that I'm not a big Nashville Pussy fan).

Oh, and Nine Pound Hammer smokes both of them

Yeah, I'm sure they are cool guys and I give them tons of credit for doing it the DIY/small club way for 25 years without letting up. I meant more musically than in-person. Nashville Pussy's songs are funny. 9 Lb. Hammer's were even more funny. ANTiSEEN, not so much. Choice of Ramones covers, not so much. I totally agree about Nashville Pussy live. The first time I saw them it was great, I was a huge 9 Lb. Hammer fan and felt like they weren't terribly different, they were fake hicks only with added chicks. The second time, holy shit, they did the exact same live show gimmicks (you totally called it). The third time, exactly the same, I only sat through them because they were opening for Rev. Horton Heat. Although I haven't seen them in years and Corey Parks is long gone (married to Duane Peters and a mom), so I'm assuming the show has changed a bit. But yeah, it's still like watching Hell's Bells, once you've seen 'em once or twice, it's always that same. You could probably say the same for The Dickies.
